In view of the upcoming Saarc Summit, around 40 Close-circuit Television (CCTV) cameras will keep surveillance of the City Hall, the main venue for the summit, in the Capital.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) recently finished laying optical fiber at the summit venue located in Exhibition Road and installation of 38 CCTVs is currently underway. The regional meet is scheduled to be held on November 22-27.
According to MoHA sources, the CCTVs will be installed at various sites of the venue and will also keep a close eye on the Old Bus Park area, Nepal Police Club and areas close to Nepal Tourism Board.
Meanwhile, the government has made necessary preparations to accommodate all guests in the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Kathmandu during their stay for the summit. Accordingly, works are underway to lay the optical fiber in the hotel.
The Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office (MPCO) at Ranipokhari has said that it has already reviewed and verified the details of Soaltee Hotel officials in Kathmandu .
Similarly, the Nepal Police has beefed up security in the Kathmandu Valley. Police have been conducting thorough patrolling at major entry checkpoints in the Valley while passengers entering in and going out of the Valley are being scrutinised.
All passengers entering the Valley through the major checkpoints, especially Nagdhunga, are made to get off the bus, and police, with the help of trained dogs, conduct thorough search of each and every vehicle.
It is learnt that at least 4,000 police officials will be deployed during the summit. Additional police officials will be sent by the Nepal Police Headquarters to scale up security. The office has also made arrangements of reserve force and striking force.
